How to start an LLC in Montana

1. Choose your business name
Select a unique name that meets Montana’s naming rules and includes an LLC identifier. Before settling on a name, you can run a Montana LLC lookup through the Montana Secretary of State’s business search to confirm the name is available.
2. Designate an organizer
Your Articles of Organization must be signed by an organizer. This may be you, another member, or a formation service. The organizer authorizes the filing but does not need to manage or own the LLC.3. Appoint a registered agent
Montana requires LLCs to maintain a registered agent with a physical Montana street address. The agent must be available during regular business hours to accept official and legal correspondence on behalf of the LLC.
4. Choose your management and ownership structure
