How to start an LLC in Tennessee

1. Choose your business name
Select a unique business name that follows Tennessee naming rules and includes an LLC identifier (such as “LLC” or “L.L.C.”). Before moving forward, you can perform a Tennessee LLC search through the Tennessee Secretary of State Business Information Search to confirm availability.
2. Designate an organizer
Your Articles of Organization must be signed by an organizer. This can be you, another member, or a service provider. The organizer authorizes the filing but does not need to be an owner or ongoing manager.3. Appoint a registered agent
Tennessee requires all LLCs to list a registered agent with a physical street address in the state. P.O. Boxes are not permitted. The agent must be available during standard business hours to receive legal and state correspondence for your LLC.
4. Choose your management structure
